The Ascension of Jesus

As we approach Ascension Day (5/21/09) what will your reflect on? It would be good to read the following Scriptures:

  • Mark 16:19-20
  • Luke 24:50-53
  • Acts 1:1-11
  • Ephesians 1:15-23

N.T. Wright in his book Surprised by Hope writes, “To embrace the ascension is to heave a sigh of relief, to give up the struggle to be God (and with it the inevitable despair at our constant failure), and to enjoy our status as creatures: image-bearing creatures, but creatures nonetheless"

Perhaps a time of quiet prayer, thankfulness, and a sense of hopefulness will be part of your worship.

When we trust in Jesus as Lord and Savior we are transformed as heirs, Children of God. So, our right belief in the God-Man is foundational to our Christian faith – and Ascension Day reminds us of His fulfillment of the Scriptures and the saving truth of the resurrected Lord who was in the beginning, is now, and will be forever.

I pray you have a blessed celebration of our Lord’s Ascension to the Father.
